What is pelvic pain?

Pelvic pain is a major concern to many women, whether it be from normal menstrual-cramps to an occasional sharp, stabbing pain that spurs concern of normalcy?  Well, Dr. Chisholm can help you understand various forms of pain and discomfort, and if desired, treatment for it, thus minimizing its impact on your enjoyment of life.  

Pelvic pain can also be severe and abnormal, in the sense that something is physically impacting it and that something, could need immediate attention.  Dr. Chisholm will assist you in working-up pelvic pain.  He will utilize various diagnostics to figure out where the pain is arising and to what degree a focus of concern needs to be addressed regarding this pain.  Various sources of pain include:

  • Uterine pain from Fibroids or Menorrhagia (heavy menses), intracavitary lesions or foreign devices (IUDs), Adenomyosis or polyps, or even pelvic congestion syndrome or cancer
  • Ovarian sources like ovarian cysts (benign and/or malignant), ovarian torsion, endometriosis
  • Pelvic sources like endometriosis or pelvic infection/STD
  • Other sources can also contribute to pelvic pain that are not associated with one’s reproductive organs, but rather Gastrointestinal or Urinary.  Dr. Chisholm can help clarify the source of pain.
